Zombie Burgers, Anyone?

I’ve brought you zombie sausages, black burgers in a black bun, and now it’s time for something a little different.

Zombie burgers. First things first, it isn’t a burger made from zombies; it’s a burger FOR a zombie because it tastes like human flesh – allegedly. This creation is the result of bringing together of two eccentric but capable culinary experts, MISS CAKEHEAD and James Thomlinson, owner of London Mess, a culinary company. MISS CAKEHEAD probably has a head start (no pun intended) on James as her work is significantly off the wall in terms of presenting food and drink from other directions. Her blog is eye-opening!

Dad Tiger Moth 1953 001Apparently James was inspired by The Walking Dead and the fact that zombies eat human flesh. I have always known that humans taste a little like pork – not from personal experience I hasten to add, but from anecdotal evidence from my parents. I was born in Papua New Guinea and all those millennia ago cannibalism was still pretty widely practiced, so much so my father was issued with a gun for personal protection; he was a pilot for Guinea Airways, a company later bought by Qantas. If you’ve seen the program, “The Worst Place To Be A Pilot” you get an idea of the type of flying he did, only it was even more risky back then, but that’s another story for another day.

Grilled_burger_1_bg_20090614James has done significant research on the flavour and consistency, and apparently has found information that leads him to want to add veal, chicken livers, bone marrow and pork together to come up with the consistency and flavour he was looking for. Another interesting fact – just like a chicken or a pig, human flesh tastes different depending on which part of the body is consumed.

He will be presenting their concoction free of charge at his next pop up kitchen, dubbed The Terminus Tavern in honour of TWD and its Terminus location in season 5. If you’re lucky enough to be there at the right time, what can I say, but bon appetit and think of it from the perspective of a zombie!
